Experts have evolved different management techniques, which have proved to be a boon for managers who have to handle large projects with multifarious activities in the most optimum manner. This book deals with the Programme Evaluation and Review Technique (Pert), and Critical Path Method (CPM) for managing large projects in the most efficient manner. These techniques, jointly known as “Network Analysis Technique”, have proved to be effective for managing smaller assignments as well as large projects and hence they have gained worldwide acceptability. Whether a small tea party is to be planned at home or a large dam is to be constructed by spending billions of rupees, these techniques have successfully been used and proved worthy in saving valuable time. The Indian Guided Missile Development Programme of DRDO is a live example, where these techniques have proved their effectiveness.

The book has been written with two objectives, viz., to make the students of management courses aware of the principles of PERT/CPM management technique, and to help the managers use these techniques for large industrial and construction projects. In addition to the PERT-CPM network analysis and their applications, certain solved examples have been given to enable the readers to appreciate their usefulness. Some exercises have also been added at the end so that the readers may get some practice in trying out the knowledge gained by them in solving actual problems.
